The report of the Commission on the Social Determinants of Health and the subsequent World Health Organisation’s Rio Political Declaration have laid out the evidence for the importance of action of the social determinants of health as the effective way to promote population health and reduce inequities. Despite this evidence and its endorsement few governments take a systematic approach to implementing action on social determinants.
